Unusual Ef’pod Episode 4: Cristiano Ronaldo and this Unusually Ef’ed World

  • mm by Effortistas
  • October 1, 2018
podcastArt by Hannah Carroll | @HannahCDesigns

In this episode of the Unusual Ef’pod, Jessie and Kirsten dive straight in to the rape accusations leveled at Cristiano Ronaldo. The two outline the article published in Der Spiegel in which the survivor outlines that night in Las Vegas in 2009, and the Juventus’ star’s response that this is simply “fake news”. They even bring up a charge from 2005, while Ronaldo was at Manchester United, that few seem to be aware of.

There is anger and yes, perhaps a few tears as the language used to talk about rape is discussed, and the media silence (or insistence on only remarking on Ronaldo’s response) is pondered. Kirsten and Jessie answer Effortista questions as best as they are able, but know that this will be an ongoing story, and speak of their commitment to talk more about the accusations in the next episode.

Compared to the first three episodes, you’ll find a more somber tone here. You’ll likely be frustrated, irritated, enraged. It may be triggering for survivors of rape and sexual assault. But the accusations against one of the world’s most famous men are something that few outlets seem to be giving proper attention to, and we knew that needed to change.
