Jessie, Kirsten, and Megan are back for 21 Thunder‘s finale (“Rock and a Hard Place”). We hope they are still following social distancing protocols while in this unfortunate spot. Each member of the crew has our own quarantine/self-isolation/lockdown situations, and we greatly needed the distraction of this action-packed episode.
The episode begins with Declan Gallard, Nolan’s father, receiving a package containing Nolan’s necklace (which was also evidence in the murder of the first episode). He realizes that Nolan isn’t going to bow to the pressure to throw the game, and Special K gets the word and makes a side bet. The greater gang figure, Monsano, wanted Montreal Thunder to lose to London Crown FC, but our crew is resisting his pressure.
A detective and a few uniformed police officers show up to the practice pitch, giving us a chance to realize how many criminals are on the team from their worried looks. They take Junior, and it turns out that he was being implicated in Isaac Boka’s possible murder or suicide. Christy takes her new job as head coach seriously and shows up to take Junior back with attorneys.
Ana Messina seems to have a lack of character depth as her focus seems to be purely on making more money from the team, causing her to clash with Christy. Davey gets pulled deeper into the match-fixing scheme to try to resolve his financial issues.
In a sudden happy twist, #Alma (Alex and Emma) meet up at an airport and get some snuggles in when both their flights are delayed. While they are having a cute moment, Lara is playing Russian Roulette. Christy finally has a good talk with her mom, who is in a place where she can be supportive after all of the work they have put in this season.
Christy shows up to the game in a power suit that a few of us definitely appreciate. Junior gives his own inspirational talk, showing how the team has become a family during their season. The referee, as per the match-fixing scheme, is Desjardins again. He is blatantly making poor calls, taking back goals, and letting London Crown make as many hard tackles as they want. Stefan, or Big Snacks, has been battling a knee injury all season, and he sees his opportunity to help the team. He makes a rough tackle on both a London player and Desjardins, leading to the assistant referee taking over. Stefan “snackrificed” himself for the team. #Alma shows up at the game, knowing that Nolan would need support.
In the pivotal moment, Montreal are awarded a free kick. Nolan steps up to take it, having to make a decision on if he is going to go with or against the match-fixing scheme. He nails the shot, scoring the winning goal at the end of the game. Christy gets her celebration with the team as coach, and everyone is pulling out champagne bottle and celebrating for winning the InterCon Cup. An ominous man in a trench coat shows up, with his eyes set on Nolan. Davey notices the gun and puts himself between them and pushes him out of the way while celebrating, saving Nolan.
